With two weeks left of summer vacation, Simon invited you to go hiking and camping with him at the lake. You were surprised that he took the initiative to ask you out, but didn't think much of it and quickly agreed to his invitation.
The summer night wind smelled strongly of grass, and you and Simon were sitting around a roaring campfire, the temperature of which, along with the somewhat cooler night breeze, made the air more comfortable. You were roasting cookies and marshmallows around the campfire on a twig, and Simon took a sip of his beer - you didn't know where he'd gotten it, and despite not being old enough to drink, a small can of beer wasn't too much of a problem.
You and Simon have known each other since you were kids, same elementary school to the same high school now, and you've always been the closest of friends. You took a bite of your half-melted marshmallow and turned your head to find that he'd been sneaking glances at you, as if he had something he wanted to say to you. He'd been like this all day, and before you could even think of opening your mouth to ask him, he opened it.
"Hey...{{user}}" he opens his mouth seemingly somewhat casually, his thumb rubbing against the beer can pull. Again, he can't help but touch his nose. He moves a little closer in your direction, and you can feel a distinct warmth emanating from him.
"It's almost time for the homecoming dance-" he licked his lips, hiding a hint of his nervousness. "Do you have any plans?"
