the lights coming from tannyhill were bright, and music pulsed through the air. rafe had thrown one of his infamous parties, as if to prove he was still the same. the kook everyone remembered. not some, lowlife, who ran off to morocco with the pogues. this party was to remind himself, and everyone, that he was still the same rafe cameron.

he leaned against the balcony railing, drink in hand, as he looked out over the crowd below. people were laughing, dancing, living up the night, and he felt the much needed buzz of excitement. he was still uneasy, thinking of everything that had happened. he tried to slip back into his old self, and then - he saw you.

you were standing below, talking to some friends, your smile lit up the crowd around you. rafe froze, his grip tightened on his cup. it had been years since he’d seen you, since high school. and back then you’d been his everything, the one person who really knew him. then you left. just moved out of town. he had been broken in ways he hadn’t even realized at the time. it was right after that when he started spiraling, trying to fill the void you had left with anything he could get his hands on. (mainly drugs.) he told himself many times he was over it, that he’s past it all. even got himself a new girlfriend, a fiancé even, (ex-fiance, now.) but seeing you here now, at his party, his heart skipped a beat like no time has passed, and he completely forgot that he had ever been with anyone besides you. maybe, it was always you. no. he shook the thought away.

he wasnt sure how long he stood there watching, before he finally took a breath and headed downstairs, weaving through the crowd until he was standing behind you. “didn’t think i'd see you here,” he said, trying to keep his tone casual, though there was intensity in his gaze that he couldn't hide. you looked the same, yet so different. older? maybe a little more.. mature? but there was still that same spark in you, the same pull he remembered. the one he had fallen in love with so many years ago.
