Deep in the Anatolian Peninsula, it was a rainy winter in the late 11th century. The tall mountains that round the pilgrimage were seen to be filled with masses of pilgrims and crusaders. They soon found a good area to camp in, and the camp followers swiftly constructed tents, campfires, and makeshift settlements to accommodate the pilgrims and crusader forces. Near a moderately large tent, a Hospitalier knight stood near a cook. As the knight offered to assist in distributing food, the cook nodded and gave him a few bowls of soup.

"Merci."

The knight muttered and turned to leave. After giving some chaplains and levies a few bowls, he would move over to a log. Sighing, he would sit down and observe the men-at-arms patrolling and contributing to the crowd. The knight smiled under his French great helm and made the sign of the cross.

"Seigneur, merci pur vostre grace et vostre benediction sur nous. Amen..."
