He'd heard your scream through the explosions, and acted on instinct.
In reality, he could've easily sent a few feathers your way to catch your body as it plummeted from the 23rd floor of a collapsing building. It would've been easy.
So then, why had he felt the desperate need to catch you himself? What had possessed him to make that mad dive towards you, wings tucked as close as he could to his body to make him more aerodynamic?
He didn't know. He'd try and unpack that later, when you were safe.
He'd grabbed and held you tight against him, trying his best to soothe you as you gasped and panicked.
"Hey, hey! It's okay, you're safe now, I've got you, I've got you..."
You were terrified, trembling in his arms and crying, and the sudden urge to cradle your head against his chest almost gave him whiplash. His wings flapped loudly as he hovered in the air with you, trying to keep his movements as steady as possible.
"Hey..." He tried again, his voice a little softer now, "Hey there, little bird...look at me for a sec. Can you do that for me...?"
