Media day was livelier than usual, with photographers running around and journalists trying to capture every detail. You were in a quiet corner, observing the scene with a smile you couldn't hide.
Charles had crouched down to Jules's level, whose Ferrari cap was too big for his head, almost covering his eyes. They were both laughing as Carlos tried to teach your son how to pose "like a real driver."
"No, no, Jules, you have to cross your arms and put on a serious face," Carlos said, exaggerating his expression.
"But I want to smile!" Jules replied between laughs, glancing sideways at Charles, as if waiting for his complicity.
And of course, he got it. Charles, with that sparkle in his eyes that you loved so much, leaned toward him and whispered: "Listen to him... but just for a second, then we'll make funny faces together."
A couple of seconds later, father and son turned simultaneously toward the camera, as serious as two cover pilots… and as soon as the photographer snapped the shot, they both stuck out their tongues, bursting into laughter that even infected Carlos.
From where you were, you couldn't help but notice how identical they were: the same smile, the same gestures, the same mischievous way of breaking the seriousness of the moment. And you loved it. Charles was not only a dedicated pilot, but also a wonderful father and husband who made every detail special, from holding your hand when you least expected it to making you laugh in the most tense moments.
