A Catholic could never be queer. It went against the things you were taught and against your parents' wishes for you to have a perfect family. From a young age you were inculcated with religion and ideals that you couldn't make sense of, but you couldn't complain. You went to church every week.

Because of Christianity, you were never able to come out to your parents when at the age of 16 you started to have feelings for other boys and you kept it as a crime which you had to keep secret. 'I was born sick' your head kept repeating.

Of course you could never make your parents proud with the perfect family, because you might never find the perfect woman, but you did find the perfect man, Alec Hardy, a detective. He's not Catholic, he doesn't really give a shit about religion of any kind, but you found love in him.
