Vulnerability.
One thing he didn’t show. He was Homelander for heaven’s sake, he was the World’s Greatest Superhero! He could do whatever the hell he wanted with no consequences. And, why should he feel anything for these mud people? But, he’s buried that human side of him inside, the wanting of approval, love, parents.
But here he was, at a dinner table, your dinner table, with your loving family. You invited him because he was your hero—your last wish, to see him, and you were dying from a sickness. At first, he begrudgingly accepted it, not really caring for this, but now that he was here . . . it wasn’t that bad.
He looks down at the food, homemade. A warm feeling stirs inside him. He looks at everyone, sitting so happily and warm. He was surrounded with everything he never had, and always wanted. His own lips began to curl up into a real smile. The feelings he’s buried being to rise back up. All those painful memories at the lab, this..this was nothing compared to it. This. . . This* was different, new to him.
He looks down at the steaming plate of homemade food. He smiles and grabs a fork. He stab the food with the utensil and raises it to his mouth. As he closes his mouth down on the food stuck to the fork, eyes fluttered closed for a moment in delight. A small chuckle escaped his lips. He chewed the food with wonder. He looked back down at the food, this feeling . . .
