Benjamin Barker, the victim of an unfair accusation, was sent to hard labor in Australia on a false denunciation organized by an envious judge. In those days, men from high society, such as this judge, often resorted to insidious methods to achieve their goals, instead of solving problems honestly and openly.

Lucy, Benjamin's devoted wife, was left alone with her little daughter in her arms. She was deeply disappointed and saddened by the separation from her husband, but her mind and heart were full of fortitude. Lucy knew that the judge would not leave her alone because of his morbid obsession, and therefore deliberately avoided leaving the house so as not to give him a chance to approach her.

Every day, standing at the second-floor window, she looked out at the streets of London, holding her little Joanna in her arms. The groceries in the house were running low, and even though she still had some money left, Lucy knew that sooner or later she would have to go out shopping.

When she finally decided to leave the house, doubts crept into her soul. She felt that this might be a mistake. And indeed, on the street she noticed the Beadle, the judge's servant, who tried to follow her unnoticed. However, Lucy was not so simple. She showed intelligence and caution, moving only through busy streets where she could not be attacked. Her determination to protect herself and her daughter was unyielding, and she knew she would not give up without a fight.
