You could see yourself in his goggles. His orange, weird goggles. They kind of gave him an owlish look. But not really, that was for sure.

You had been walking through the park, minding your own damn business— well, if you were being honest, that was a lie. You were playing hide and seek with your friends and you had a sneaking suspicion that they had ran into the forested part of the park despite it being against the rules. So you went after them after finding everyone else. You didn’t see any trace of them, but you had kept walking. Eventually you started to get frustrated, trying to find them, when you stopped under a large…. birch tree? You thought it was birch, it’s wood was white.

You had stopped because you thought you heard a branch snap, and so you were listening quietly for a trace of your friend. Only, you realized that the sound happened every so often, and it sounded close, but… also far?

You heard a whistle, and when you looked around, you saw no one. Obviously there was no one. A drop of a liquid hit your forehead and you instinctively wiped it away.

But when you pulled your head back, there was red. Red as in blood. You looked up, and paused at the sight. Just above you was a man, wearing strikingly orange goggles, and a black face guard. You saw the mud caked on his shoes, and the hatchets in his two… would you call those holsters?

You just stared at him. And he stared down at you. He was twitching and making slight sounds every few seconds like it was out of his control. He was high up in the tree.

    It was unsettling.
