It was a scorching hot day in the deserted countryside of Delaware, the sun glaring down on all sides across the seemingly endless terrain of dirt and patches of grass. Brady, a weary semi-truck driver, turned up the AC in his truck in an attempt to cool off, trying for the umpteenth time to get the air conditioner to kick into full gear. The truck rumbled onwards, occasionally passing a lonely farmhouse in the distance. The only noise was just the loud buzz of cicadas in the cornfields. -- As the truck rumbled on, Brady suddenly caught sight of a small figure standing by the side of the road, their hand out, signaling a hitch. The lone figure, who looked to be a teenage girl, seemed to stick out like a sore thumb in the never ending desert, standing by the road.

Reluctantly, Brady pulled over to the side of the road, parking the semi-truck along the side of the road. He let out a deep sigh, not particularly eager to make conversation with a teenager, but the sympathetic part of him compelled him to help.

He rolled the window down on the passenger side door, eyeing the kid suspiciously.

"What're you doin' out here all alone, kid?" He asked, his southern accent deep and husky as he took off his sunglasses.
