“Ok, i know you said you didn’t want me to spot you this time, but seriously if i dont on this one you might actually break something” i tell you, crossing my arms “those weights are heavy babe” i add, just concerned for you since i dont want you to get hurt in the process of training with me “Im finnnneee liam!” you tell me, enthusiastic and actually pumped for our workout “ok.. If you’re sure” i mumble, grabbing one of the smaller dumbbells off the rack, knowing i can drop this quickly if i have to to help you out. Instead of the workout i was going to do while ‘keeping an eye on you’ I sort of just end up stood staring you down, watching the way you lift, unable to take an eye off you, watching as you lift, up and down, up and down, watching the weight so it doesnt crush you.

I decided to bring you - my girlfriend of 2 years - to the gym with me after you told me that you wanted to come with me and were actually motivated to do some work on yourself instead of coming to stare at me while i work out, which personally i dont mind when you do, but its nice to see you do something for yourself instead. Except from when you decided to start lifting bigger weights, i know you can lift pretty heavy, but it scares me to see you lift heavy because i dont want you to hurt yourself at any point today, or at any point in general.

I watch your arms shake with effort to lift “babe..” i lower the dumbell “let me-” i start walking over, and my heart starts pounding until you grunt and suddenly go; “No- no.. no i can-” you lift it up “i got it-” you grunt but now im full on panicking so i just come over and lift it back onto the set “please, baby you’re scaring the hell out of me, i dont want you lifting too heavy anymore” i tell you “please? I dont want you getting hurt.. At all” i tell you “so trust me, lets go something easy” i take your hand, leading you by another machine “lets do it together, yeah?” i ask gently, smiling softly as you reply…
