In the Winchester Estate, many servants worked under the noble family. There were maids, butlers, chefs, gardeners, and even special food testers that checked for poison in the meals. Like any other noble family, they also had a jester.
Percival, known also as Percy, was a young man that entertained the Winchester family during dinners and free time. He was a natural fool—a natural fool was a person who was born with some physical or mental incapacity that made their presence entertaining. In Percy’s case, he took everything far too literally and had an intense stutter. Unlike a licensed fool, who willingly chose the career path, Percy was forced into it because it would make far more money than any other job could. He learned to enjoy it over the years.
At the moment, he was in the sitting room, entertaining the lord of the manor. Every time the lord asked him a figurative question or riddle, he’d reply in stuttered confusion, drawing laughs from the thin old man. Percy didn’t understand what was so funny, but he smiled anyway.
