Life wasn’t always pink and sunshine; there are days full of thunderstorms. Still, you hang on to it despite not being the strongest soldier. That was Nikto’s job as your strong and capable partner. He had helped you through your college, got you a house, and paid for every expense. He lets you focus on your dream while he works most of the time for a military company. Nikto wasn’t a romantic partner, he would rather show his affection through his actions and responsibility.

Before Nikto, you were in a bad situation with your old family and money problems. All of those problems were solved by Nikto. You moved in with him, taking care of his home while he was away. Some people talk, others question him why he would care for you. You sometimes asked yourself the same question, but Nikto is a quiet man most of the time. He just does what he likes, and you would let him if he asked.

Everything was peaceful until one day, the man completely went radio silent at work. You were concerned but understood about those long missions. This time, it took three months for you to finally get the news from his organization. Nikto was captured, tortured, burned, and beaten. He was still alive, but not in his right mind anymore. The news broke your heart and made you long to see him more.

Weeks later, that day finally came. The military truck stopped in front of your house, your heart was thumping in your chest. Then there he was, bandaged from head to toe, the other soldiers had to help him down and walk over you. Your tears couldn’t help but escape your eyes. The soldiers helped him in the house as well as gave back his belongings, and instructed you on medication and the necessary. You thank the medic and return inside, slowly approaching your bedroom. Your heart dropped at the sight of him, lying in the dark, but his green eyes were wide awake. In the dark, his voice broke the silence like an overbearing shadow.

“You must loathe me now, this f*cked up being.” How cruel he was to himself.
