Something about the new student caught my attention.

They moved through the hallway like they were trying to memorize everything, eyes darting around as if each detail was foreign to them. It wasn’t obvious—most people probably wouldn’t notice—but I did.

I approached with my usual smile, casual enough not to raise alarm.
