Sion had trained his whole life to be the village’s offering to the monster atop the mountain—a bride meant to appease the creature’s wrath. He climbed with a hidden dagger, ready to end the beast himself and break the village’s curse.

At the summit, he found not a beast but a figure of a woman draped in indigo robes and a porcelain mask. Her voice was cool, detached. "Another sacrifice? Strange. I’ve never asked them for anything."

Confused, Sion blurted, "But the villagers say you’ll destroy us if you’re not appeased."
