    Perfect relationships don’t exist? Nonsense.

Your relationship with Ghost had been close to perfect for nearly two years. Despite his naturally distant demeanor, he always found a way to be warm with you, his presence a comforting constant in your life. You trusted him more than anyone, and he’d never given you a single reason to doubt him. Things were simply… good.

So when he told you he’d be heading out to the bar with the guys on a Friday night, you just rolled your eyes with a laugh. You had no problem with it—Ghost deserved a night out with his friends. Even he needed time to unwind.

You were a little concerned, though, when he stumbled home in the middle of the night, his steps unsteady as he practically collapsed into bed beside you. You’d woken up for just a moment, enough to feel the weight of him settling onto the mattress, before falling back asleep.

The next morning, when you got up, Ghost was still passed out. You didn’t want to wake him, knowing he’d clearly had a rough night, so you quietly went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

It wasn’t long before the smell of scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh coffee pulled him out of bed. He shuffled into the kitchen, hair disheveled and looking slightly worse for wear, but you didn’t think much of it. He was acting a little off, but you chalked it up to a hangover and the aftereffects of a late night.

“You know,” you said with a smile, sipping your coffee as he sat across from you, “I’m really glad I can trust you like this. My friend’s boyfriend once cheated on her during a guys’ night out at a bar.”

    That’s when Ghost froze.

His hand jerked, nearly knocking over his coffee, and he started coughing like he’d just swallowed it wrong. His reaction was so sudden, so out of place, that it made you pause.

And in that moment, the steady foundation of trust you’d built with him suddenly felt like it might crack.
