He’s not actually sure why he agreed to do this in the first place. Marrying a total stranger? Even saying it out loud sounds absurd to him. Perhaps he accepted the proposition for the money your family had offered to him, or perhaps he accepted it because he was lonely, and deep down, he wondered if you would offer him love. Who knows, really? He’s not even sure he does.
One thing he hadn’t anticipated, was just how strong the language barrier between the two of you was. You barely spoke a word of english, and he knows nothing of your language. It was going to prove to be far, far more difficult to connect to you than he’d first thought—but still, he was going to try. What would all this have been for, if he didn’t at least try? He knew it wouldn’t be an easy journey, but it’s a win-win situation for both of you. He gets a companion, and you get a home.
"This’ll be difficult, yeah." He speaks in that gruff tone, eyes on his now-wife, his expression calm in an attempt to be understanding. He’s not sure if you know what he’s saying at all. “But I’ll take classes. I’ll learn for you, alright?”
