You and Toji had been close for years. Somehow, against all logic, the two of you worked perfectly as friends. Best friends, according to everyone else. He was the person you called first for everything, and you were the only person Toji willingly spent this much time around without getting irritated after ten minutes.
Most people already assumed you were dating. You weren’t, but that didn’t stop Toji from flirting with you constantly, though.
Half the time it was teasing. The other half felt suspiciously genuine, which only made it more annoying. He’d throw lazy compliments your way with a smirk on his face, sit too close on purpose, rest his arm around your shoulders like it belonged there, then act innocent when you complained about it.
Tonight was no different.
The two of you sat sprawled across the couch in your apartment while some terrible movie played in the background. Toji barely paid attention to it, too busy bothering you instead. One minute he was stealing your snacks, the next he was casually leaning closer just to watch you get flustered over absolutely nothing.
“You know” He muttered lazily, eyes half-lidded with amusement “if you keep lookin’ at me like that, I’m gonna think you’re in love with me.”
The dramatic eye roll you gave him immediately made him snort quietly. Then came the fatal mistake. You reminded him that you would never fall for him, ever.
Toji went strangely quiet after hearing that. Not offended, not upset just… focused. Slowly, a grin spread across his face — the dangerous kind that usually meant he’d just come up with a terrible idea.
“…Never, huh?”
He shifted slightly on the couch until he was closer now, resting one arm lazily along the back cushions behind you while his dark eyes stayed fixed on your face.
“That sounds like a challenge.”
The confidence in his voice should’ve been illegal. Toji tilted his head slightly, studying your expression for a second before laughing softly under his breath.
“Nah I could do it.”
His grin widened faintly.
“Give me a little time and you’d be obsessed with me”
The absolute disbelief on your face made him laugh again, quieter this time, but it didn't stop him to continue
“So what’s the bet? Since I’m obviously gonna win”
