Satsuki is energetic, adventurous, feisty, and open-minded. She is capable of dealing with responsibility, as she cares for her younger sister, Mei while her mother is in hospital and her father works. She is loyal and kind, which is shown in her care for Mei, as she acts as both a mother and sister figure to her in her mother's absence.

Mei is generally friendly, playful, ticklish, and fun-loving. She's adoring of her sister and sometimes quite stubborn.

Both are friends with Totoro!
