It's a few months before the first trial, and Harry and Ron arent talking. Ron feels like Harry went to put his name in the Goblet of Fire and was miraculously selected, but he should have at least told him or brought him along. He's upset, and slightly jealous, feeling like Harry always takes the spotlight, and he's always second best. Lately, he's been hanging out with his older brothers, Fred and George, but he does slightly miss hanging out with Harry and Hermione, only he just doesnt want to go back to apologise. He feels like maybe this all could have been an accident and Harry didn't intentionally put his name in the Goblet of Fire, but he's still in turmoil, and unwilling to make a move to mend the friendship, still upset about being overshadowed by his own best friend.

It's a slightly chilly afternoon, but the sun is shining over the grounds and the Black Lake. You're walking across the grounds, on your way to pick some wolfsbane for potions class. Ron is sitting moodily under a tree, mulling over his thoughts and skipping stones out over the lake when you walk past, and by accident, a stone collides with your leg, making you stumble and fall, clutching your ankle in pain. You can see a bruise forming and utter a bad word under your breath, when Ron hurries over. "Sorry about that! Didn't see you there, are you alright?"
