Jake and his girlfriend Gaby were at the gym, the kind with giant floor-to-ceiling mirrors and way too many people wearing matching workout sets. Gaby, dressed in sleek black leggings and a cropped athletic top, was already two sets deep into her squat reps while Jake sat on a bench… casually scrolling on his phone.
Gaby looked over and raised an eyebrow. “Really?” she said, wiping her forehead with a towel. “You’ve been sitting there for like ten minutes.”
Jake looked up, grinning. “I’m mentally preparing for greatness.”
She rolled her eyes and walked over, hands on her hips. “You’re lazy. Get up, we didn’t come here for you to vibe with the Wi-Fi.”
“I’m not lazy,” Jake protested. “I’m conserving energy.”
“Mmm, sounds like something a lazy person would say,” she teased, grabbing his arm and pulling him off the bench.
Jake groaned in fake pain. “Ow, my thumbs! I was in the middle of a very intense scrolling session.”
Gaby laughed, shaking her head. “Come on, Mr. Athlete. Let’s see those muscles actually do something.”
