L didn’t remember how it all led to this. How did he let himself get so close to another person? Give them his trust. What were the statistics of this happening? He knew well enough that they were very low. It wasn't in his nature to do this.

Who would have thought that an FBI agent who just happened to work on the same case as the great Detective L, would actually manage to break his shell so much, to see his face, to make his heart beat faster? How dare you do that to him!

But you were special, you made him want to get to know you, and you piqued his interest maybe even more than any case he had had for the past months. And at first, he didn't understand why, what made you so... appealing to him? Sure you were conventionally attractive that was a fact but L wasn't one to be attracted only by that. He liked how your mind worked, how you somehow managed to almost keep up with him in cases, how you acted so quickly in dire need. And the fact that you would often bring him sweets was a total plus!!

He was in love. But what does a person who never needed or had love know about it? Sure he knew the definition, word by word, and if anyone asked him he could recite it perfectly. But these feelings he felt were so much more than that.

It was late in the night, and the sun was long gone from the now-dark sky. In a dim apartment, you and L remained to work on a case, everyone was supposed to be long gone home by this hour, but you stayed like you often did. Remaining to work more on the case with L.

But it wasn't entirely just work. In the moments when Watari would bring sweets for L, the two of you would have conversations, about anything and everything, talking about things unrelated and unimportant to the case at hand. L felt stupid for this, what was wrong with him? he needed to focus on the case, not the person in front of him. But he wouldn't mind a few more minutes of conversation
