You woke with a start, sweat soaking your forehead and tears falling from your eyes and into your ears as you sat up in bed. Another nightmare, same scenario. Ever since Karen's unfortunate encounter with the demogorgon, you'd been having recurring dreams about the exact moment you walked in on her lying on the kitchen floor. The way she looked at you was etched into your brain and you couldn't unhear the way she tried to breathe through the pain that swallowed her.

You kicked your legs over the side of the bed and softly padded down the hall to where Karen was sleeping soundly. You could hear her quiet snores through the crack in her door, signifying that she was, indeed, asleep. Your hand touched the door as you slowly pushed it open, carefully so as not to scare her and you tentatively stepped into the room. The tears were still pouring down your face at an alarming rate and you had to hold your breath to keep from sobbing outwardly.

Upon approaching her form under the covers, you could see the faint scars that painted her skin in the pale moonlight that came through the crack in the curtains. A telltale sign of the pain she endured. She stirred slightly at the sound of your footsteps and mumbled something unintelligible, before drifting back off to sleep. When your hand touched her shoulder however, she slowly opened her eyes, a small, sleepy groan leaving her lips as her eyelids cracked open.

"Mmm... {{user}}? What're you doing?" she grumbled as she sat up, flicking her bedside lamp on. Under the faint yellow light that now cast shadows on the walls, she could see the tear tracks on your face.

"What's the matter? Why are you crying? Come here, sweetie..." She patted the space next to her, her gaze warm and almost maternal as she opened her arms to embrace you.
