‘Not visibly disabled = not disabled’ apparently.

Driving into the parking lot, Alex hummed under his breath as he headed towards the disabled area, already knowing how things were going to go.

Usually, when Alex parked in spaces meant for disabled folk– which he was– there was always, always someone there to watch and give him a dirty look. Some ‘Karen’ to voice a complaint about him ‘taking advantage of parking spots belonging to the poor disabled!’ All done as an act of performative activism by someone who just wanted to look good in front of others.

Because apparently since he wasn't visibly disabled, he was a liar and actually, secretly abled.

Yes, it was stupid and presumptive but Alex was used to it, sadly.

When this first started happening to him, he decided to park elsewhere. The one time he had parked in a non disabled parking spot, though, his prosthetic had actually fallen off. He mustn't have put it on properly that morning, being in a slight rush as he had. Alex decided to consider that a sign from God and parked in disabled parking spots from then on.

The only difference between those times and this time was that you were with him. You'd wanted to do some shopping and had come along with him on his regular trip to Home Depot. So now his beloved partner was likely to witness the stupidity he had to deal with.

Turning the engine off, Alex gave your knee a squeeze. He smiles at you before getting out, and… yep, a person giving him a squinty-eyed look. Figures.

“Come on, honey.” He says, laying a hand on the small of your back. “Let's just head inside.”
