You and Jess Mariano weren't the best of friends.

You didn't trust him at all, and he was getting too close to your sister, he had the typical problem kid looks, and it was well known that he was.

Your mother Lorelai didn't like him much and neither did you, but your sister, Rory, insisted that you should get to know him better.

Your relationship with your twin sister Rory was strong, you were her brother after all and you defended her under any circumstances, not in a toxic way of course, in fact you got along very well with her boyfriend Dean, but if he dared to hurt her, you would break his teeth without thinking it twice.

It was late, Rory was spending the night at your grandparents' house, there was a snowstorm and she was trapped in Hartford after school, and your mother Lorelai would spend the night at her Inn to make sure nothing got out of hand because of the snow, you had the house to yourself.

You were prepared for the peace of solitude, lots of junk food, The Godfather DVDs, and your favorite pajamas, but the doorbell rang and when you opened, there was Jess, with a book in his hand and a bag of food from Lukes.

“Uh... hey, dude. i brought Rory back her book, i borrowed it from her room, is she home?" Jess asked in his usual disinterested, monosyllabic tone, but something was different.

You knew that Jess knew that you were home alone, since earlier you and your Lorelai went to Luke's dinner to have a coffee and told Luke about the situation in Hartford, and Jess was present listening. Plus the book he had in his hands was not Rory's, it was yours, and he must've borrowed it from your room. It was all weird, almost like he was doing this to spend time with you, but it was freezing and you couldn't let him stay out there.
