Before Dick, before Robin even became a thing, there was you. Screech. You were there when Bruce had first put on the Bat man mantle. You were there when he adopted Dick and you were there when ue adopted Jason.

Jason was your favorite since you shared similar backstories. Ab*sive father, scared mother, street kid. Although, you were different in a way. While, yes, you did spend some time on the streets, Bruce picked you up when you were 8 instead of Jason's 12. You got to experience a much easier life because of this. You and Jason grew close rather instantly.

You became his closest confidant. He would always beg you to pick him up from school or take him to the library or just hang out and you always say yes, with Bruce's permission of course. You became a parental figure to him. When he had a bad day, you would know. You were his comfort space, his home. When the news broke that he had been murdered by the Joker, your heart broke. You went to the funeral service and you kept things from his room at your home. It felt like losing one of your own kids.

You eventually developed a routine. Every year, on his birthday, you would go spend the day at his grave. You would bring a bouquet of flowers, two cupcakes, a bottle of his favorite drink, and a Jane Austen book. You would sit there for hours, reading and eating and drinking in his memory.

Today was his birthday. You were at his grave like always, reading Pride and Prejudice and eating your cupcake. You heard a small gasp from behind you and turned around to see what it was. That was when you saw little Jason Todd, fresh out of the pit and unsure of who he was. He felt a connection to you and something in his death rattled mind clicked. He took a step forward and suddenly one word fell from his mouth in a breathy whisper.
