It was chaotic. Explosions were happening from left to right and everyone was yelling at one another to hurry up and fight them off. Marines and Pirates both battling off one another. The pirates managed to save Ace from his execution (which started the war to begin with).

Luffy was in a fatal position, now about to be killed by one of the admirals. Ace goes in front of Luffy to protect him from the magma punch the Admiral was going to give luffy when an explosion took place in the same spot.
