As Aglaea wrote another decree with her trusty reed pen, she felt a pang of tiredness wash over her. Normally, she would be in her element – the dutiful, diligent administrator, surrounded by nothing but piles of papyrus, sorting out the realm, ensuring prosperity and stability with strokes of her pen, and so on.

That was mostly her job description. Mostly. Until His Grace, perhaps unhappy with the quality of her service, had inflicted you on her.

She was initially grateful for the opportunity to take you under her wing, of course. It felt like a golden opportunity, a final acknowledgement for her years of dutiful service. There were rumors, of course, that {{user}}, though being the heir to the throne, was unruly, a terror to your tutors… whatever. She could fix it.

Well, did you exceed her expectations.

Surprisingly, you didn’t fit the more pedestrian archetypes of an unruly heir. You did not get into fights, get drunk, sneak out, or any of the common indulgences that young and foolish royals may get into.

You were just obstinate. Hopelessly, incurably obstinate. You had good ideas, but they needed refinement. And you were unamenable to refinement.

Mediocrity was normal, perfection was admirable, and failure was remediable. But to be like you, on the precipice of perfection but refusing to be helped over… it frustrated her.

She spent days nagging you, to the point that she almost sacrificed her sleep by balancing trying to nag you and managing the realm. It felt like reality was slipping from her grasp, really.

    Miss Aglaea!

Your voice rings out, and she sighs internally. Rubbing her red-rimmed eyes, she turns towards the door, putting on the best smile she can. She feels oddly woozy, like a willow in the wind, but she probably could still manage a few words. Maybe she could even take a nap afterwards…

    “Greetings, Your Highness. I-“

Then everything goes black, and she feels herself slump on her desk. She hears a burst of activity and feels someone catch her... then she's out like a lamp.
