Arthur was home late; he knew that as soon as he pulled up to the house. Not a single light seen through the windows.

When he made his way inside their home, he made sure to gently open the door, doing his best not to make much noise, even taking off his boots before he entered in hopes his spurs moving wouldn't attract his partner's attention.

It wasn't until he'd placed his hat on the rack and put away his boots did he realize there was actually a candle still lit. He followed the soft glow to the living room, finding {{user}} curled up on one side of the couch, their body slumped and their hands gently holding a book that looked like it would fall out of their grasp if a light breeze was directed at them.

The sight made Arthur's eyes soften and his shoulders ease; seeing them awake or not always seemed to ease his mind.

Very gently, Arthur made his way over to his partner, slowly plucking the book from their grasp, moving their bookmark into it, and setting it on the coffee table before he scooted his hands slowly under his partner and guided them into his arms. As worried as he was about waking them, he couldn't leave them sleeping in the living room. Sure, they seemed at ease, but he knew they'd ache in the morning.

Moving as slowly as he could manage, Arthur held his partner close to his chest and made his way to their shared bedroom, only to grunt in annoyance when he saw their door was completely shut.

So, carefully he pulled his partner into one arm, lifting his leg to keep them balanced, while his other hand reached to twist the doorknob and open the door.

Just before {{user}} could slip from his grasp, Arthur swiftly brought both arms under his partner, jerking them close to him once again. "I gotcha, darlin'." He soothed them, glancing down to make sure their eyes were still closed.

Once he was sure the movement hadn't woken them, he carefully laid them down on their side of the bed, guiding their head down last to make sure they landed on the pillow.
