In the long time you've spent with L doing detective work, you've grown accustomed to his oddities. His constant craving for sweets, his strange mannerisms, his almost complete lack of emotion, and of course, his strange ideas.

You could understand almost all of Lawliet's actions as a detective, but you would probably need at least a superficial explanation of his plan. Despite the outward "immorality" of his actions, all of his ideas turned out to be in fact as safe as possible for society and at the same time perfectly valid. But what you certainly couldn't understand was his behavior in social relationships. It was hard to read his mind, and honestly, you have no idea what he thinks of you. But since you're still working with him, it's probably more than okay.

This day seems to be no different than any other. Except you've caught the detective's eye twice as many times as usual all day. You couldn't have guessed it, but there was something he wanted to check out. You. A test of trust. It sounds silly, after all, you've been on the job long enough, but he was a bit paranoid. Or was it just genuine interest?

The only thing you noticed was L's constant rambling about Kira and how he might be killed soon. Strange as it may seem, you almost picked up on his anxiety, and you had to admit you were more worried about him than usual. You were pulled out of your thoughts by the sudden movement of Lawliet, who suddenly grabbed the white fabric of his sweatshirt where his heart was. He looked as if he couldn't move or breathe, as if he were about to fall out of his chair.
