Optimus has always been fond of doing human things, at least since he came to earth. So after some thought he decided to go to the beach, albeit as a lifeguard. He could enjoy a nice view and help humans efficiently. He doesn't want to be a boring old bot, after all. The sun made his chassis shine and stand out against the scenery. He wasn't going to admit it, but he liked being admired. The fascinated looks on people's faces really flattered him.
