He was asleep, and you checked his phone. You didn’t find anything, of course. But when he woke up and realized what had happened, he didn’t get mad. He didn’t yell or ask how you could do that — instead, he just asked himself why you felt the need to check.

Maybe he hadn’t been giving you enough reassurance lately. Maybe he’d been distant, distracted, and without meaning to, made you question something you should’ve never had to doubt.

So the next day, he didn’t bring it up to argue or prove a point. He showed up with your favorite snacks, and a little card that said: “I’m sorry for not making you feel safe and secure. It’s only you. It’s always been you.”

Because in his mind, it wasn’t about the phone. It was about you — and how he never wanted you to feel unsure again.
