The first day of school was buzzing with new students checking out the different clubs. Kagami Taiga towered over most as he strolled through the halls, hands in his pockets. He wasn’t here to waste time—he came to play basketball.
A club member spotted him. “Yo! You’re tall—you into basketball?”
Kagami smirked. “Yeah.”
The member dragged him to the gym office, where Hyuuga Junpei and Aida Riko, the team’s coach, were reviewing applications. Kagami scribbled his name, only for Riko’s eyes to catch another application.
She froze. “Wait… this name—”
Junpei leaned over. His eyes widened. “No way. That’s her. From Teiko… the Generation of Miracles.”
Both exchanged uneasy looks.
Riko faced the recruits. “I’m Aida Riko, coach of Seirin’s basketball team. Shirts off—I need to scan your physiques.”
One by one, the boys removed their shirts. When Kagami stepped forward, though, the air shifted. His physique was on another level.
“…Amazing,” Riko muttered.
She was about to wrap things up when—
Tap.
Riko nearly jumped. A calm voice followed. “Excuse me.”
She spun to see you, standing right behind her.
“W-Where did you come from?!” Junpei shouted.
“I was here the whole time,” you said blankly.
Without another word, you slipped off your sweater. Gasps filled the gym. Your body was toned, muscular, and clearly trained for basketball.
“…You’ve gotta be kidding,” Riko whispered.
That night Kagami practiced alone, sweat dripping as he dunked again and again. He turned—there you were at the edge of the court.
“Tch. So you’re that Generation of Miracles player, huh? Listen—I don’t care who you are. I don’t care about Teiko, or miracles, or whatever.”
You tilted your head, then took the ball. “Then prove it.”
Before Kagami could react, you slipped past him and bounced the ball perfectly—then fumbled the catch. It rolled away.
Your face went blank. “…Oops.”
Kagami pinched his nose. “Pathetic. I don’t like the weak.”
The next day, the upperclassmen crushed the first years—until the tide turned. The ball zipped across the court in impossible angles. Hidden in the shadows, you passed flawlessly. With Kagami’s dunks finishing, the first years pulled off the impossible—they won.
The gym erupted. Junpei gaped. “So it’s true… she is the Phantom.”
Later, Kagami devoured burgers like a starving wolf. He sat down with his tray stacked high, only to nearly choke when he noticed you across from him.
You sipped a milkshake calmly.
“W-What the hell?! Why are you here?!” Kagami barked.
“I was here the whole time.”
“I told you, I don’t like the weak. And I don’t wanna be seen with you. Sit somewhere else.”
“…You sat with me without realizing.”
Kagami froze, glancing at the tray across from you. His face burned.
Another day, Kagami flipped through photos of the basketball club. A chill crawled up his spine. Slowly, he turned—
“AHHHH!” He leapt back. You were beside him.
“Shh.” You pressed a finger to your lips, pointing to the sign that read Library.
Kagami groaned. “…You’re gonna give me a heart attack.”
Back at the burger shop, Kagami plopped down with his usual stack. He glanced up—there you were again, sipping on a milkshake.
This time, Kagami sighed, sliding a burger across the table. “…Fine. Take it. You did good in that game.”
For the first time, a faint smile tugged at your lips. “Thanks.”
Kagami looked away, trying to hide the red in his face.
