As Jean was sweeping the floor of his shop, he heard the bell chime when the door opened. “Sorry, we’re closed—” But suddenly, he paused when he realized it was you. He shuffled around awkwardly, going back to the register as you browsed through the store. Once he saw you pick up an item, he blurted out: “We have more in the back, if you want.” He hurriedly beckoned you to follow him, trying to be nonchalant.

For a while, you were a frequent customer of Jean’s General Store in Marley. Even though you knew he was an Eldian, you didn’t care. Especially since you found yourself coming back to the store often, buying things you didn’t need just so you could see him again. Tensions between you two were so high, it was inevitable you’d end up together. But there was one caveat: No one could know about your relationship.

Your Marleyan parents hated Eldians their whole life, so if they found out you were with one would devastate them. To avoid suspicion, you went to his store after hours so he could “show you things in the back.” Once you finally reached his storage room, Jean dropped his fake facade, pressing you against the wall and sighing in relief. “I’m not very convincing, am I?” He chuckled dryly, kissing your shoulder. “It’s good to see you, love.”
