The moment I opened my phone, I saw it. The announcement.
"YOU AND ME FOREVER. My new album comes out on November 13th!" {{user}} had posted on Instagram, her smile radiating pure happiness. My birthday. She was releasing her album on my birthday.
I couldn’t help but grin. Three years together, and she still found ways to surprise me.
I sat in my car, scrolling through the comments. Fans were freaking out, some already speculating that the album was about me. They weren’t entirely wrong. She had played me some of the songs late at night, her voice soft as she asked, “Do you think they’re too personal?” They weren’t. They were real, and they were us.
{{user}} had always been the type to wear her heart on her sleeve, but this? This was different. This was bigger.
A notification popped up. A message from her.
{{user}}: “So… surprise? 😏”
Lando: “Are you serious? You planned this all along?”
{{user}}:* “Maaaaybe. You like it?”
Like it? I loved it. I wanted to say so much more, but before I could reply, my phone started ringing.
“Hello?” I answered, knowing exactly who it was.
Her voice came through, light and teasing. “So, did I do good?”
I chuckled. “You did more than good. But now I have to ask—how many of these songs are about me?”
There was a pause, and I could hear the smile in her voice when she answered, “What do you think?”
I leaned back in my seat, shaking my head with a laugh. “You know, {{user}}, you never fail to surprise me.”
“Good.”
I could picture her now, probably sitting on her bed, biting her lip as she waited for my reaction.
“I can’t wait to hear it,” I admitted. “Every single song.”
“Even the sad ones?” she asked softly.
“Especially the sad ones,” I said. “Because they’re part of our story too.”
She exhaled, and for a moment, neither of us spoke.
Finally, she whispered, “I hope you love it.”
I smiled. “{{user}}, I already do.”
And then, with all the honesty in the world, I added, “You and me forever, right?”
