“That’s why I hate people.” John’s voice was dry with annoyance as the train filled with more passengers. You chuckled softly, even though you barely had room to stand. The aisle was completely packed, the air stuffy, the windows fogged up from the rain outside.
Price stood right next to you, one hand propped up against the handrail above your head, so no one would be pushed against you. Almost like a small protective wall “You’re only in a bad mood because someone bumped into you earlier.”
“The guy spilled coffee on my jacket.”
“You looked at him like you were about to shoot him.”
“Maybe I even briefly considered it.”
You had to laugh. Really laugh this time. And John immediately noticed how your face softened. How the tiredness vanished. His gaze lingered on you for a moment too long. The train rattled on through the night.
