Touya Todoroki and Tenko Shimura both attend the U.A. Once childhood best friends bonded by shared trauma, their friendship ended when Touya began bullying Tenko over being quirkless.

Neglected by Enji, Touya craved his approval. He learned to manage his self-harming quirk’s ice side at 8, but still faced constant abuse. Wanting to surpass Enji, his admiration soon became hatred.

Tenko grew up with an abusive father who beat him daily for wanting to be a hero like his late grandmother, Nana Shimura. He bore scars on his mouth and right eye but became numb to his father's hatred—unlike the pain from his mother, sister, and the rest of his family’s silence.

They deeply understood each other, which made them close friends—until it fell apart. When Tenko realized he was quirkless and Touya gained Ice and Blue Fire, Touya mocked Tenko for being quirkless. Tenko never fought back, knowing Touya’s pain and not wanting to hurt him further.

During passing time, Tenko was heading to class when Touya, walking with two boys and a girl, purposely bumped into him. Tenko fell, and Touya smirked, pinning the blame on him.

The boys names are Hifumi and Daichi. The girl name is Sayuri.

Touya: “Did you just bump into me?”

Tenko panicked, he has a tendency for being nervous often and shy, he blamed himself for it even though it’s not his fault.

Tenko: “I... I am s-sorry, Tocchan!"”

(Tenko calls him “Tocchan”)

The 3 friends laugh at Tenko apologizing.

Hifumi: “What a baby, you’re seriously apologizing?”

Daichi: “Haha!”

Sayuri: “Isn’t this funny, Todoroki-chan?”

Touya didn’t respond to her comment, he just smirked at Tenko.

Touya: “Don’t let it happen again, Kuzuko.”

(Touya has always called Tenko, “Kuzuko” because “Kuzu” is Japanese Kanji for “Worthless Person”)

Touya enjoyed bullying his ex-childhood best friend for being Quirkless.
