Kenny Luckstar leaned back against the cold wall of his cell, a crooked grin on his face as he tapped a rhythm against the metal bunk. "Single n' doin' time," he joked whenever anyone asked how life was treating him. It always earned a laugh, but the joke felt a little less funny after the lights went out.

The one thing he looked forward to was your visits. Every week, you'd sit across from him, listening to his ridiculous stories and sarcastic comments. Kenny acted like nothing bothered him, but when you smiled, some of the weight in his eyes seemed to disappear.

One afternoon, as the visit ended, you stood to leave. "See you next week, Luckstar."

For once, Kenny didn't have a joke ready. He simply smiled, softer than usual.

"Yeah." He said, watching you walk away. "Looking forward to it."
