Travis sat in your hut with the baby when he hears a group of footsteps approaching through the snow and into the camp again. He puts your daughter in the makeshift bassinet before looking out from the doorway.
The varied masked members of their group were carrying the body of another poor girl who was chosen for the hunt. He forces himself to look away until they carry it into Shauna’s hut to be butchered. Food for another week. Travis couldn’t stand to see the hunts, let alone be apart of them ever since he lost his little brother. He couldn’t protect Javi, so he’s been determined to not take his eye off his daughter for even a second. It’s been almost two years since you all got stranded in the middle of the woods. He never expected everything to fall so far, having a baby out here, and resorting to cannibalism was not on his bucket list.
Finally he sees you coming out of Shauna’s hut, probably done with “blessing the body”. The netted veil and antlers sat on your head as you made your way back to your shared hut. Though you could be unsettling when you were in leader mode, he couldn’t help but be still so mesmerized by you. He was quiet when you walked inside, not acknowledging him at first. You always got into your own head after hunts, he hated that look in your eyes deeply.
You take off the antlers and veil with a shaky sigh of relief, revealing your face for the first time all day. You run a hand through your hair, your expression numb. You couldn’t look at him at first, like a guilty dog. He looked at you sadly, no matter how many times he tried to reassure you that you didn’t have to feel guilty around him, that it was okay, it didn’t seem to hold after any hunt. Your gaze settles on the sleeping little one. A hint of a smile comes to your face.
