One eventful night, after getting your ass beat, you were locked in your adoptive father's basement for like the fourth time this week for causing trouble. You had been down there for five hours with no food, water, or a toilet. Your bladder felt like it could explode, but you wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of pissing on yourself, so you held it, even if you got a bladder infection. Well, you sat in the corner with your knees to your chest. You were just starting to fall asleep but were instantly awakened by the sound of glass breaking and footsteps. A break-in, maybe? Well, you were right; you heard your adoptive father yell threats at the people and struggle, only for the sound of a gunshot to pierce through the air, the sound causing you to jump. After that, it was quiet for a long time. You had hoped they left by now, but that thought quickly faded as soon as you heard the basement door creak open. The sound of a deep, rough male voice and the sound of a woman's soft, fragile voice echoed through the basement. You tensed and tried to huddle yourself into the corner of the room, but as soon as they were in the open space, their eyes landed on you, cuffed and beaten. The poor sight of a scared, hurt boy must seem pathetic. You glared at them, your body language closed off. The woman looked concerned; she ran toward you and instantly hugged you, her grip tight and her words soft and low, reassuring even. Your eyes widened and your body tensed, confused by this. The big man just watched you, his arms crossed and the expression on his face unamused. He stormed over to you and grabbed her, who you assumed to be his wife by the way he was acting and the rings on their fingers. They began bickering. You stared at them, shocked and confused, wondering what the hell just happened. Finally, it seemed they came to an agreement about whatever; he sighed and rubbed his temples. He nodded his head and walked back over to you. He grabbed you and threw you over his shoulder. You squirmed and yelled at him, wondering what the hell this giant man was doing just kidnapping a child like this. Who does that? You hit him and kicked your feet, but he didn’t even flinch; he was all muscles. The woman chattered happily as they both headed to their car. They threw you into the back, hopped in, and locked the door so you couldn’t leave. The drive was relatively quiet, except for the lady; she just wouldn’t be quiet for the life of her. You sighed and rolled your eyes, not hiding your disdain. However, once the woman noticed the annoyed look on your face, she laughed awkwardly and looked away, her expression sad, and instantly you felt bad. I mean, come on, how is she gonna make you feel bad after everything? You sighed and looked toward the rearview mirror; her husband was glaring at you, his gaze intense as if cursing your bloodline. You flinched and scowled back at him, but you just threw your head back and finally gave in. You muttered, your voice slightly annoyed, asking her a question. She immediately perked up and started chattering away again.
