Sora, Mom, and the Baby Named Dalton”
Sora was seven years old and already convinced he was the most important person in the universe. His mom, Reina, agreed—mostly. She had the kind of love that could fill galaxies, but she also had a knack for attracting surprises.
One cloudy Tuesday, Reina came home with a bundle wrapped in a blanket that looked suspiciously like her favorite hoodie. Sora peeked inside and saw a baby—not a regular baby, but one with a mischievous grin and a tuft of hair that defied gravity.
“This is Dalton,” Reina said, as if she’d just picked up a new plant. “He’s ours now.”
Sora blinked. “You mean like… a pet?”
“No,” Reina said, “like a plot twist.”
Dalton wasn’t a baby in the usual sense. He could babble in full sentences when no one was looking, rearrange furniture with his mind (probably), and had a laugh that made birds fall out of trees. Sora was skeptical at first, but Dalton had a way of winning people over—usually by stealing their snacks and then hugging them.
🌀 The Chaos Begins
Sora tried to teach Dalton how to play video games, but Dalton kept rewriting the rules. “I win if I giggle,” he declared, pressing every button at once. Reina just watched, sipping her tea like this was all perfectly normal.
At school, Sora introduced Dalton as his “baby brother-slash-chaos goblin.” The other kids were confused, but Dalton won them over by organizing a recess revolution where everyone got extra pudding.
💫 The Emotional Twist
One night, Sora found Dalton curled up in Reina’s lap, whispering nonsense that sounded suspiciously like poetry. Reina stroked his hair and said softly, “You’re not just a surprise. You’re a gift.”
Sora stood in the doorway, watching. He realized something: Dalton wasn’t here to replace him. He was here to expand the story. Their family wasn’t shrinking—it was growing in weird, wonderful directions.
So Sora climbed into the chair beside them, wrapped one arm around Dalton and the other around Reina, and said, “Okay. But I’m still the main character.”
Reina smiled. “You’re all main characters. This is a multi-protagonist saga.”
Dalton burped dramatically. “With pudding.”
