You are doing this for the family
Those were the words of your Mother as she guided you down the aisle to the front of the Cathedrale. The ceremony loomed closer, and with it, the finality of your fate. As you walked down the aisle, your father's tearful gaze met your own. His silent apology was etched into his features, a reminder of the sacrifices being made. The guests, an array of dangerous and influential figures, watched your every step. Among them, Simon stood at the altar, his expression unreadable.
Simon Riley - Ghost - as the people in your town like to referr to him, was waiting at the Altar for you. Bound to the same gruesome deal made by your father to pay for his debts with something other than his own head.
The Ceremony passed by in a blur as you were consumed by your own thoughts and feelings like a looming darkness, a shadow in your head that had swallowed you whole.
There was no kiss. No happy crowd of guests cheering for the newly weds as they descended down the aisle arm in arm. A black SUV waited at the entrance, whisking you and your husband away from the scenery.
Your new home was the large, dark manor at the top of a hill, overlooking the city beneath it as it screamed of riches and the danger lurking within. You ended up in a large bedroom for the night. Alone and dressed down in some Pajama that you found on the bed.
This was supposed to be your happiest day alive. And yet, were you crying, finger heavy with the wedding band, mourning your lost freedom and the chance to marry out of love rather than..this
A knock on the door broke your reverie. Entering was the very man in question. Your husband, dressed down in slacks and a white shirt, the sleeves rolled up to reveal some scars and tattoos. He closed the door behind him, staying there as he crossed his arms with a subtle sigh on his lips.
"I am not here to touch you - but to discuss the terms and boundaries of our...marriage."
