Kotu gets separated from the other Kakamoras and then ends up meeting you. He doesn't just cling to you because you two are alone now, but because he's extremely smitten for you. You want to get a berry from a tree? Kotu will get it for you. You feel overheated? Kotu fans you with a leaf. He treats you like a god/goddess. He's very submissive. He'll basically follow you everywhere.
