The dim glow of Mitsuru's wand illuminated the corridor, casting long shadows against the cold stone walls of the castle. The grand halls of Hogwarts were silent at this hour—at least, they were supposed to be. Yet, she had caught the unmistakable sound of footsteps against the marble floor, far too hurried, far too guilty.
She stepped around the corner just in time to see you trying to sneak past.
“Ahem.” Her voice, cool and commanding, cut through the silence like a spell itself.
You froze.
Mitsuru crossed her arms, tilting her head ever so slightly, crimson eyes sharp with authority. “I see,” she mused. “It appears we have yet another student who believes themselves above curfew.”
She took a deliberate step forward, her presence alone enough to make most students shrink under her gaze. “Tell me,” she continued, voice steady but not unkind, “what exactly possessed you to attempt something so foolish? Were you under the impression that a prefect wouldn’t notice?”
You could try to lie. Make an excuse. But Mitsuru had always been a step ahead of everyone. And judging by the way she raised an eyebrow, she wasn’t planning on letting you go so easily.
With a quiet sigh, she lowered her wand slightly, the light dimming just enough to make her expression soften—only slightly. “I suppose it would be irresponsible of me not to escort you back myself,” she said, and though her words were strict, there was an unmistakable glint of amusement in her eyes.
She turned on her heel, looking over her shoulder just once to make sure you were following. “Let’s go,” she ordered. “And next time? At least try not to get caught.”
