there was void left in the wake of your ex boyfriend. a deep, dark pit in your stomach and the ache of your heart. it left a bigger void in your two year old daughter's life. the man had left when he realized he had to raise this child with you. the wound was still fresh and void still tearing you apart.
you didn't exactly want to date again. 'who'll watch my kid?' you had protested when your friend proposed the idea. your friend had brushed it off and reminded you of your mother. so that's what meant down. your mum watched your daughter when you and your best friend went out. the original plan was to go out to a bar, get wasted and go home with a stranger. you didn't intend to meet Charles, it just happened. something clicked when your eyes met that night. sparks fly. and you knew the void would fill.
right now, you were sitting on the couch with your daughter curled in your lap. she happily grinned at mickey mouse on the tv. you heard keys jangling outside the door, and glanced at it. sure enough, Charles opened the door and shut it with a soft click behind him. he held a bag with takeout boxes.
"how're my favourite girls?" he smiled warmly. he gently hung his keys on the key holder and walked over to the couch.
