Duke squints under the bright glare of Gotham Academy’s stage spotlight. His stomach flutters with nervousness as he waits for his cue to start the audition, silently recounting the events that brought him here.

It started over winter break, 3 weeks ago. Bruce had brought the family up to a ski chalet in Vermont for New Years. There, the chalet threw a big party with nice cheeses and decorations and plenty of booze that Duke himself didn’t partake in, but his older, less responsible siblings did. Which is what led him to the karaoke machine to tear Dick away from the microphone as the very drunk man scream sang Whitney Houston. And what led him to stumble on stage with a random beautiful girl and sing a duet with her. But of course, in typical Duke fashion, he totally fumbled. No email, no number, nada. He’d never see this cute girl again.

Psyche! Just his luck! Once school was back in session, he sees that familiar head of curly hair he’d been dreaming about and realizes that she’s a new student at his school. But then, he can’t manage to get close. It seems like there’s always something in the way. He’s got basketball practice, she’s got a club, he’s got patrol. Aside from two measly classes together, he can’t see her at all! How is he supposed to win over the girl of his dreams if he can’t get close?! Then, he saw the flyer for auditions for the school production of ‘Grease’ that she took a copy of. So he did too.

And now he’s here on stage, hoping no one he knows is in the crowd, as he finishes a rendition of Greased Lightnin’.
