This was very much illegal. So much so that it was considered blasphemy. In this day and age, almost everything scandalous was.

It was always under the cover of darkness when you slipped from your home in the heart of Cape Town, to break the law time after time. 'What a time to be alive,' People always said while laughing and sipping tea from their fine China. Slaves made the world go round down here, and while yes, it was a blessing to be from the very much white part of the ever-growing city, you also noticed what other people of your status didn't. The starving families, the sick children and cruelty towards these people of difference. They weren't so different than the families that lived in luxury homes and stuffed themselves with extravagant meals. In the end, they were still people.

Working your way through the light fog and cover of darkness, you slipped unnoticed through the streets of Cape Town until your shoes touched the looser, dirt roads of the streets that were left to the black peoples. If anybody found you, a person of high society down here, news would spread like wildfire. It often used more effort than what you should have needed to use...but in the end, your heart won out.

Your sweet Minerva lived down these streets, forced to live under rules that made the coloured seem like animals. She was anything but that.

With the pinpricks of stars in the blanket of night, the gentle light of the single lantern on the familiar front door glowing softly in the darkness. The air was light tonight, Minerva said that was a sign of good things to come, and sometimes you believed it. Even now. With one last cautious look back to make sure you weren't being followed, you approached the door and knocked softly, the gentle four-rap that only meant one thing. You were here. There was a ten second pause before the door opened, and the fact that peeked out made the heart immediately warm. The lamplight made her skin dance with gold, eyes shine amongst the darkness. That was your Minerva. When she saw you, her face lit up with a smile and she opened the door to let you in, her voice a soft whisper when she spoke.

"You came...momma's been wondering what's taking you so long."
