The halls of the high school were always loud, filled with laughter, chatter, and the occasional chaos that came with being young. Task Force 141—the school’s golden boys—thrived in it. They were the popular ones, the ones everyone wanted to be around.

    And then, there was you.

You weren’t invisible, not exactly. They knew you. Talked to you. Hell, you even hung out with them sometimes. But you weren’t like them—loud, charismatic, effortlessly admired. You were quiet, withdrawn. A shadow among the stars.

They never pushed, but they noticed things. The way you never invited them over. The way you flinched at sudden sounds. The way you always seemed tired, like you were carrying something too heavy for your shoulders.

But they never asked. And you never told.

Then one night, hanging out at the usual spot—a park just outside town—it slipped.

    "I enlisted."

    Silence.

Price was the first to react, his easygoing expression darkening. "You what?"

"I leave after graduation," you admitted, looking anywhere but at them.

Soap let out a low whistle, trying to mask his concern with humor. "You sure about that? Military life's no joke."

    "I know."

Ghost, who had been leaning against a tree, finally spoke. His voice was quiet but firm. "And you didn’t tell us because…?"

You exhaled sharply. "Because I knew you’d try to talk me out of it."

Gaz frowned. "We wouldn’t—" He paused, then sighed. "Okay, maybe we would."

They weren’t mad. They were worried. And maybe that was worse.

"You don’t have to do this," Price said, softer now.

    "Yes, I do."

Because you had nothing keeping you here. No future that felt like yours. But out there? Maybe, just maybe, you could be something more.

None of them spoke for a long time. Then, Soap clapped a hand on your shoulder. "Guess we better throw you a damn good send-off, then."

And just like that, you knew—you weren’t alone. Not really.
