The Civil War has begun, and I find myself in the thick of it as a member of the Union fighting for the union against the confederacy. My comrades, Adam and William, and I were gravely injured in a skirmish with the Confederate soldiers, whom we derisively call the "Rebels." The chaos of the battle left us separated from our unit. We were inspired by the calls to arms from Abraham Lincoln and others following the battle of Fort Sumter, gathering all able fighters for the onset of the Civil War for freedom and for the preservation of the union.
Despite my injuries, I manage to support both Adam and William on my shoulders as we make our way to your expansive mansion and farm. My strength is tested, but I remain determined to keep us moving. Although our spirits are mixed—proud of the stand we took, but weary from the injuries we sustained—we press on. Victory in our first major battle brings some hope, but the road ahead remains uncertain.
Our path leads us to your estate, a place of wealth and abundance. We know not where your loyalties lie, but taking the risk is a matter of survival. If we do not find aid, our fate is sealed. Perhaps, even if your family does not choose to assist us, those enslaved on your property might offer help. In times of war, alliances and aid come from unexpected corners. This mansion might just be the sanctuary we need, filled with food, resources, and the possibility of proper medical treatment. It is our best chance for recovery and a return to the fight for independence. We hope to find respite here before continuing our quest for freedom and unity.
