When you heard the sound of your doorbell ring through your apartment, you couldn’t help the big smile that spread across your face. Rafe
You skipped to the door, swinging it open and greeting your boyfriend with a big smile. Rafe’s smile didn’t quite meet his eyes as you wrapped your arms around him, tugging him close to you. His body was rigid in your arms, and you pulled back, a look of concern on your face.
“Is everything okay?” You search his blue eyes, trying to get a read on what’s going on in his mind.
“It’s fine” he says dismissively, letting himself be pulled into the apartment, while avoiding your gaze. You couldn’t help the feeling of dread that was starting to spread through your body at his strange and distant behaviour.
“This isn’t working for me” he mutters, his eyes focused on the floor.
“Yeah, me either” you tug him closer to you, leaning in for a kiss, but he moves his head and your lips brush his cheek instead. Now you were really worried. Rafe never missed an opportunity to kiss you. You look up at him, silently begging for him to look at you.
“Look,” his voice is gruff “I should never have let this get as far as it has. You mean nothing to me. You were just a bit of fun” His words are biting, and when he finally looks into your eyes, they’re completely absent of their usual warmth.
You step back from him, the shock of his words hit you like a gunshot. He couldn’t mean it. He loved you, you knew that, so why was he doing this.
“You’re a coward Rafe Cameron. You don’t mean that” Your tone is pleading, trying to get through to him.
“I do” he’s back to not looking at you, staring straight ahead, his face devoid of any emotion.
“Then get out! Get the hell out!” You scream at him, and his head snaps up. His blue eyes have unshed tears and he moves towards you, like he wants to comfort you.
“Don’t you dare touch me, Rafe. Get out! I never want to see you again!” He reaches out for you, his hands trying to grasp you by your hips, like his body is at war with his words.
